                              PSAT

        
     The PSAT/NMSQT (Prelimiary Scholastic Assesment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a shorter and easier version of the SAT. It is also the first step in competing for a National Merit Scholarship.

WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF THE PSAT?

The PSAT/NMSQT consists of 5 sections:

HOW IS THE PSAT SCORED?

You will receive 3 scores:

          Evidence-Based Reading & Writing     160-760
          Math                                                   160-760
          Total                                                   320-1520

These scores correlate with the SAT scores which range from 200-800 for each of the 3 sections.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF NJL COLLEGE PREPARATION PSAT INSTRUCTION?
    •      Every PSAT group is taught by at least one of the Directors.
    •     Groups are limited to 4-6 students per group.

    •     You may form your own group of 4 students and no one will be added to your group.

    •     Groups consist of 18 hours of instruction: 6 three-hour sessions.

    •     Each group has 2 teachers: 1 for Critical Reading & Writing and 1 for Mathematics.

    •     Private and small group lessons are available weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

WHY TAKE PSAT/NMSQT PREPARATION?

  •      To be introduced to the skills and concepts that will be tested on the SAT.

  •      To receive an overview of the PSAT so that your scores reflect real strengths and   weakness, not "...Well, I didn't know how to take the test."

  •      To obtain a competitive advantage for the prestigious NMSQT.

 

WHEN ARE PSAT'S GIVEN?

The PSAT's are given only in October.  There is a Wednesday administration of the test and a Saturday administration of the test.  You usually take the administration that your high school offers.
